There was a movie in the early 80's that had a spirit or demon that brutally terrorized a woman, even to the point of raping her. She could not see the spirit, could not control what it did to her, nor could she control when it would come or go. If this rings a bell, please post the name of the movie for me. Thanks.

No it wasn't demon seed. Ironically, I found the answer right in my own household. It was "The Entity."

The Demon Seed was about a computer who takes over its creator's house and imprisons his wife in order to impregnate her with his "seed". Pretty bizarre. Stars Julie Christie and the voice of Robert Vaughn as the voice of the computer, Proteus IV.
