I have to tell you that this song is now killing me! I saw the post on Mon 1/28 and have constantly been trying to think of it. I think you are right in guessing it might be late 70s - I can totally see it on a K-Tel compilation! I'm on a mission, I'll keep you posted...

It is called 'I Love You' by the Climax Blues Band.

I don't know the exact date, I'm afraid, since I only verified it on a Greatest Hits.
